Find A Tutor - Bringing Tutors to You

Engaging an excellent tutor will give your child a great start on their musical journey. Ensure your tutor is experienced as it is vitally important that beginner musicians learn good habits from their very first lesson. Embouchure (mouth formation), tongue placement, breathing and blowing techniques vary for each instrument. If they are not taught correctly from the start, it may be difficult for your child to master the instrument.  While the teenager next door or older sibling or relative might be convenient and less expensive, they could be teaching your child habits that hamper their learning and will be hard to undo.

Another consideration is the tutor's ability to prepare your child to learn their parts and work as part of team in a concert band /school band program format.  Might not sound important at first, however it does become clear to a conductor, the other students and sometimes the audience when a student is missing some of the fundamentals playing ina concert band.

We bring the tutor to you

For the convenience of BNPS parents there are several tutors who have agreed to work on the school premises outside school hours. Other tutors live in nearby suburbs and work out of their homes.  These tutors are specialists on their particular instrument and have a proven ability to teach and communicate knowledge and technique to young musicians. They are also familiar with, and prepared to teach, what is required for the BNPS Band Program.

It is advisable that the person engaging the tutor (ie parent/carer) checks that the tutor has a valid Working With Children Check. These can be checked online -  www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/parentscheckthecheck .
